Postpartum Depression Treatment in California

Board-certified telepsychiatry available anywhere in California — in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Spanish.

The "baby blues" fade within two weeks. Postpartum depression does not. If sadness, anxiety, rage, or numbness has followed you past those first weeks — or appeared months after delivery — you are not failing as a mother. You have a treatable medical condition.

Mindful Sewa Psychiatry treats postpartum depression through telehealth visits across California, so you can get expert care without packing up the baby or finding childcare.

Signs & Symptoms of Postpartum Depression

  • Sadness, hopelessness, or frequent crying after delivery
  • Feeling disconnected from your baby
  • Intense irritability or anger
  • Anxiety or scary intrusive thoughts
  • Sleep problems even when the baby sleeps
  • Loss of appetite or overeating
  • Feeling like a failure as a mother
  • Thoughts of harming yourself

How We Treat Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression responds well to treatment. Plans may include medication that is compatible with breastfeeding when that matters to you, supportive therapy, sleep strategies, and help mobilizing support at home.

Video visits fit around feedings and naps. Many new mothers attend appointments with the baby right there — that is completely fine here.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first visit is a compassionate video conversation about how you are truly doing — not just how the baby is doing. We screen carefully, including for postpartum anxiety and intrusive thoughts, and build a recovery plan that respects your feeding choices and family situation.

Postpartum Depression — Frequently Asked Questions

How is postpartum depression different from baby blues?

Baby blues affect most new mothers and resolve within two weeks. Postpartum depression is more intense, lasts longer, and interferes with daily functioning. It can begin anytime in the first year after delivery.

Can I take medication while breastfeeding?

Several antidepressants are considered compatible with breastfeeding. We review the data together and choose an option that supports both your recovery and your feeding goals.

I have scary thoughts about something happening to my baby. Am I dangerous?

Intrusive thoughts are a common symptom of postpartum depression and anxiety, and having them does not mean you will act on them. Telling a provider about them is the first step to relief. If you ever feel you may act on a thought, call 988 or 911 immediately.

Do fathers get postpartum depression?

Yes. Up to one in ten new fathers experience depression in the first year. We treat parents of all kinds.
