Conditions We Treat

PTSD & Trauma Treatment in California

Board-certified telepsychiatry available anywhere in California — in English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Spanish.

After a traumatic event, the mind sometimes stays stuck in survival mode. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) brings flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and avoidance that can persist for months or years. Trauma changes the brain — and treatment helps it heal.

Mindful Sewa Psychiatry provides trauma-informed PTSD care by telehealth across California. You set the pace; nothing is forced.

Signs & Symptoms of PTSD & Trauma

  • Flashbacks or intrusive memories of the event
  • Nightmares and disturbed sleep
  • Avoiding reminders, places, or conversations
  • Feeling constantly on guard or easily startled
  • Irritability or angry outbursts
  • Emotional numbness or detachment
  • Negative beliefs about yourself or the world
  • Memory gaps around the trauma

How We Treat PTSD & Trauma

Treatment may include medications that reduce hyperarousal, improve sleep, and quiet nightmares — including options such as SSRIs and prazosin for trauma-related nightmares — combined with grounding skills and referral to trauma-focused therapy when appropriate.

Trauma-informed care means you control what you share and when. Healing does not require retelling everything on day one.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first appointment is a safe, structured video conversation. We assess symptoms and history at a pace you choose, screen for co-occurring depression and substance use, and agree on first steps you feel ready for.

Ready to start? Book a comprehensive evaluation, review our transparent fees, or take the symptoms quiz first.

PTSD & Trauma — Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

No. Effective psychiatric care for PTSD focuses on symptoms and recovery. You decide what to share and when — your pace is the right pace.

Can PTSD show up years after the event?

Yes. Delayed-onset PTSD is well documented. Symptoms can surface after a new stressor, a reminder, or a major life change.

What medications help PTSD?

SSRIs are first-line for core PTSD symptoms. Prazosin can specifically reduce trauma nightmares. Sleep and anxiety support are often part of the plan as well.

Is telehealth appropriate for trauma care?

Often yes — being in your own safe space can make trauma care feel more tolerable than an unfamiliar office. Crisis situations still require 988 or 911.
